Tracing evolution of Earth After weeks of auditions and loads of practice, the final day arrived. This year, they presented a unique play titled 'The Baton' that was conceptualised, scripted and directed by Sahil Jaffrey and choreographed by TR Dance Company. The objective of the play was to engage the minds of the audience by challenging their thinking. The story line revolved around the creation of the world and theory about the world coming to an end. The story began with the big bang and then got into a narrative by the wise one aka-God, who regales the audience by looking at them from a 70mm screen. Needless to say, it had the audience awestruck! As God takes us, from one era to another, describing how he had left clues to save mankind from Armageddon, the audience were taken from the cave men's' era, to the colonial empire that ruled all the world, to wars, Woodstock, Bollywood and finally to the contemporary age. But by the time the audience realised what had brought the earth to its knees, the secret clues that lay inside the scroll had disappeared amongst all the chaos, crime and catastrophes that had plagued the world for generations. The scroll that had travelled on a journey, through mystical times and mysterious pasts, had but vanished fromt he face of the earth. The finale showcases how man had to dig deep within for the answers to save our world; and he did. Throughout this enchanting journey, the children prepared intensely and gave off themselves entirely to make the impossible, possible. The conceptualisation, the choreography, the direction, the production - everything reflected the passion and hard work that went into it! But what was gained amost of all, is that each student started questioning why their characters were saying twhat they are saying. The show's success was so grand that it mesmerised the most intellectual thinker and awakened the most hardened souls. This year the students witnessed a seven-minute long standing ovation that not only warmed their hearts, but also empowered them with the knowledge that nothing is impossible and true grit and creativity can yield them great rewards. "Our children are amazing. The talent, the grace, the confidence, the enthusiasm that they exude is commendable. The message was thought-provoking. With every such endeavour; we raise the bar." said Radhika Sinha, the principal. |
